WHITNEY TERRELL - XAVIER TREVINO - JESSICA SHATTUCK
Jessica Shattuck is the author of #1 indie pick “The Women in the Castle” as well as “The Hazards of Good Breeding (a New York Times Notable Book and a Winship/PEN Award finalist). Her breakout book was about dealing with the discovery that her own grandparents were Nazis.
Emerging writer Xavier Trevino is a veteran who writes about his experiences in the civilian world. A former soldier who turned to drugs before starting a family, his candid writings about PTSD embody the grief and difficulty of returning to "normal" after time in the military.
Whitney Terrell’s novel “The Good Lieutenant” was chosen as best book of 2016 by The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and Refinery 29. Terrell, who was an embedded reporter in Iraq during 2006 and 2010 (and who covered that war for The Washington Post Magazine, Slate and NPR) returns to Pen Parentis from his home in Missouri for the second time.
